Manslaughter
Manslaughter is generally classified as a crime against the person and is defined as the unlawful killing of a human being without malice. State laws generally define and classify manslaughter into three categories:  | Voluntary - upon a sudden quarrel or heat of passion. |  | Involuntary - in the commission of an unlawful act, not amounting to felony, or in the commission of a lawful act which might produce death, in an unlawful manner, or without due caution and circumspection. |  | Vehicular - operating a vehicle or a vessel in the commission of an unlawful act, not amounting to felony, or operating a vehicle or a vessel in the commission of a lawful act which might produce death, in an unlawful manner, and further categorized as to whether the act was accomplished with or without gross negligence. |
